testing and docker replacements (#3968)
This PR restructures testing scripts and Docker configurations to use centralized compose files, introduces new Docker Compose variants with integrated frontend services, and updates related CI workflows. Migrate test scripts to reference testing/compose files and streamline test flows with forced rebuilds and direct curl checks. Add ultra-lite, security, and security-with-login compose files under testing/compose, each defining both backend and frontend services. Rename and adjust frontend imports and update CI workflows to build and validate the frontend separately. |

Bump com.unboundid.product.scim2:scim2-sdk-client from 2.3.5 to 4.0.0 (#3736)
Bumps [com.unboundid.product.scim2:scim2-sdk-client](https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2) from 2.3.5 to 4.0.0. <details> <summary>Changelog</summary> <p><em>Sourced from <a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md">com.unboundid.product.scim2:scim2-sdk-client's changelog</a>.</em></p> <blockquote> <h2>v4.0.0 - 2025-Jun-10</h2> <p>Removed support for Java 11. The UnboundID SCIM 2 SDK now requires Java 17 or a later release.</p> <p>Updated the following dependencies:</p> <ul> <li>Jackson: 2.18.3</li> <li>Jakarta RS: 4.0.0</li> <li>Jersey: 3.1.10</li> </ul> <p>Updated the default behavior for ADD patch requests with value filters (e.g., <code>emails[type eq "work"].display</code>). The SCIM SDK will now target existing values within the multi-valued attribute. For more background on this type of patch request, see the release notes for the 3.2.0 release where this was introduced (but not made the default). To restore the old behavior, set the following property in your application:</p> <pre><code>PatchOperation.APPEND_NEW_PATCH_VALUES_PROPERTY = true; </code></pre> <p>Updated <code>SearchRequestBuilder</code> to be more permissive of ListResponses with non-standard attribute casing (e.g., if a response includes a <code>"resources"</code> array instead of <code>"Resources"</code>).</p> <p>Updated the class-level documentation of <code>SearchRequest</code> to provide more background about how searches are performed in the SCIM standard.</p> <p>Added a new property that allows ignoring unknown fields when converting JSON text to Java objects that inherit from <code>BaseScimResource</code>. This behaves similarly to the <code>FAIL_ON_UNKNOWN_PROPERTIES</code> setting from the Jackson library, and allows for easier integration with SCIM service providers that include additional non-standard data in their responses. To enable this setting, set the following property in your application code:</p> <pre><code>BaseScimResource.IGNORE_UNKNOWN_FIELDS = true; </code></pre> <p>Fixed an issue with methods that interface with schema extensions such as <code>BaseScimResource.getExtensionValues(String)</code>. These accepted paths as a string, but previously performed updates to the extension data incorrectly.</p> <p>Simplified the implementation of the StaticUtils#toLowerCase method. This had an optimization for Java versions before JDK 9 that was especially beneficial for the most common case of handling ASCII characters. Since JDK 9, however, the String class has been updated so that the class is backed by a byte array as opposed to a character array, so it is more optimal to use the JDK's implementation directly while handling null values.</p> <p>Previous releases of the SCIM SDK set many classes as <code>final</code> to encourage applications to follow strict compliance to the SCIM standard. However, this also makes it difficult to integrate with services that violate the standard. An example of this is a SCIM error response that contains extra fields in the JSON body. To help accommodate these integrations, the SCIM SDK has been updated so that several model classes are no longer <code>final</code>, allowing applications to <code>extend</code> them if needed. The following classes were updated:</p> <ul> <li>scim2-sdk-client builder classes such as <code>CreateRequestBuilder.java</code></li> <li><code>ErrorResponse.java</code></li> </ul> <!-- raw HTML omitted --> </blockquote> <p>... (truncated)</p> </details> <details> <summary>Commits</summary> <ul> <li><a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/commit/039c7e62645744498f938f3502517dcdd18c2986"><code>039c7e6</code></a> Setting release version 4.0.0</li> <li><a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/commit/ea0486470e61493829dbd1664f63fbcc949bc597"><code>ea04864</code></a> Update CHANGELOG date for the 4.0.0 release.</li> <li><a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/commit/bfd276e8221b7843ba0d6f605d2a95f09cfe11b0"><code>bfd276e</code></a> Make GenericScimResource extendable.</li> <li><a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/commit/9008757a2281e2cbaf36e05a0bb1f276ab15a800"><code>9008757</code></a> Clean up POM and remove Guava test dependency.</li> <li><a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/commit/a954381dcca9ac0fbb9b3171252cba861a3323b2"><code>a954381</code></a> Remove the deprecated ScimDateFormat class.</li> <li><a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/commit/76f23141ffc8564becbb671c1aaa4060d7a0c161"><code>76f2314</code></a> Enhance the Filter classes and their documentation</li> <li><a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/commit/cfd9d7ecf9e3ef0a32cc9ca0fbe9ffc5e202d3cc"><code>cfd9d7e</code></a> Add a new filter method for SearchRequestBuilder.</li> <li><a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/commit/3c3c0cad3382f9a21456e1af0133e9263ef526c2"><code>3c3c0ca</code></a> Fix CodeQL by adding Java 17 installation step</li> <li><a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/commit/114ad5105bd245b2115e4ca9523f532bff7a5535"><code>114ad51</code></a> Import the default codeql.yaml</li> <li><a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/commit/26fe8f180a281ca6e296e8b40be10f1f02ea0f47"><code>26fe8f1</code></a> Allow extending model classes</li> <li>Additional commits viewable in <a href="https://github.com/pingidentity/scim2/compare/scim2-2.3.5...scim2-4.0.0">compare view</a></li> </ul> </details> <br /> [](https://docs.github.com/en/github/managing-security-vulnerabilities/about-dependabot-security-updates#about-compatibility-scores) Dependabot will resolve any conflicts with this PR as long as you don't alter it yourself. Support multi-file async job results and ZIP extraction (#3922)
# Description of Changes
This PR introduces multi-file support for asynchronous jobs in the
Stirling PDF backend, enabling jobs to return and manage multiple result
files. Previously, job results were limited to a single file represented
by fileId, originalFileName, and contentType. This change replaces that
legacy structure with a new ResultFile abstraction and expands the
functionality throughout the core system.
ZIP File Support
If a job result is a ZIP file:
It is automatically unpacked using buffered streaming.
Each contained file is stored individually and recorded as a ResultFile.
The original ZIP is deleted after successful extraction.
If ZIP extraction fails, the job result is treated as a single file.
New and Updated API Endpoints
1. GET /api/v1/general/job/{jobId}/result
If the job has multiple files → returns a JSON metadata list.
If the job has a single file → streams the file directly.
Includes UTF-8-safe Content-Disposition headers for filename support.
2. GET /api/v1/general/job/{jobId}/result/files
New endpoint that returns:
```json
{
"jobId": "123",
"fileCount": 2,
"files": [
{
"fileId": "abc",
"fileName": "page1.pdf",
"contentType": "application/pdf",
"fileSize": 12345
},
...
]
}
```
3. GET /api/v1/general/files/{fileId}/metadata
Returns metadata for a specific file:
4. GET /api/v1/general/files/{fileId}
Downloads a file by fileId, using metadata to determine filename and
content type.

This PR makes the multi-tool usable when zoomed in or when the browser window is narrowed a lot. (#3897)
# Description of Changes This PR fixes responsiveness issues with the multi-tool interface when zooming/narrowing the screen, implementing a zoom-responsive sidebar and resolving navbar scaling conflicts. ## What was changed • **Zoom-Responsive Sidebar**: Converts horizontal bottom buttons to vertical left sidebar at 175%+ zoom using CSS media queries. • **Fixed Navbar Scaling Bug**: Prevents desktop zoom from triggering 3x mobile navbar scaling by requiring actual mobile device detection. • **DPR Detection**: Uses Device Pixel Ratio to distinguish window narrowing (3rem buttons) vs browser zoom (2.5rem buttons) ## Why the change was made - **Accessibility**: Users zooming for accessibility reasons were getting poor UX with bottom floating buttons - **Bug Fix**: Desktop zoom was incorrectly triggering mobile navbar scaling (3x size), making the interface unusable - **Multi-context Support**: Different users narrow windows for split-screen work vs zoom for accessibility - each needs different icon sizes ## Checklist ### General - [x] I have read the [Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) - [x] I have read the [Stirling-PDF Developer Guide](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/devGuide/DeveloperGuide.md) (if applicable) - [ ] I have read the [How to add new languages to Stirling-PDF](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/devGuide/HowToAddNewLanguage.md) (if applicable) - [x] I have performed a self-review of my own code - [x] My changes generate no new warnings ### Documentation - [ ] I have updated relevant docs on [Stirling-PDF's doc repo](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-Tools.github.io/blob/main/docs/) (if functionality has heavily changed) - [ ] I have read the section [Add New Translation Tags](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/devGuide/HowToAddNewLanguage.md#add-new-translation-tags) (for new translation tags only) ### UI Changes (if applicable) - [x] Screenshots or videos demonstrating the UI changes are attached (e.g., as comments or direct attachments in the PR) ### Testing (if applicable) - [x] I have tested my changes locally. exception handling and exception improvements (#3858)
# Description of Changes This pull request introduces several improvements to enhance error handling, internationalization, and documentation in the codebase. The key changes include the addition of `ExceptionUtils` and `I18nUtils` utility classes for consistent exception handling and internationalized messages, updates to documentation paths, and modifications to existing methods to integrate the new utilities. ### Error Handling Enhancements: * **Added `ExceptionUtils` utility class**: Provides standardized methods for creating and handling exceptions with internationalized error messages, including specific handling for PDF corruption, encryption issues, and other file-related errors. * **Integrated `ExceptionUtils` into `CustomPDFDocumentFactory`**: Updated `loadFromFile` and `loadFromBytes` methods to log and handle exceptions using `ExceptionUtils`, ensuring consistent error handling across PDF operations. [[1]](diffhunk://#diff-10208c1fc2e04631a8cf2a2a99b2a1160e532e75a7b840ad752f3b0130b89851R358-R363) [[2]](diffhunk://#diff-10208c1fc2e04631a8cf2a2a99b2a1160e532e75a7b840ad752f3b0130b89851R375-R381) * **Updated `FileToPdf` to use `ExceptionUtils`**: Replaced direct exception throwing with `ExceptionUtils.createHtmlFileRequiredException` for unsupported file formats. ### Internationalization Improvements: * **Added `I18nUtils` utility class**: Centralized access to Spring's `MessageSource` for retrieving localized messages, enabling consistent internationalization across the application. ### Documentation Updates: * **Updated documentation paths in `CONTRIBUTING.md` and `README.md`**: Changed paths to reference the new `devGuide` folder for developer documentation and translation guides. Added mockTempFileManager to tests in EML-to-PDF mockito to resolve errors (#3826)
# Description of Changes Resolving conflict that comes from conflicts between #3797 and #3806 #3797 modified the code: - The convertEmlToPdf and convertHtmlToPdf methods now require a TempFileManager tempFileManager argument. - All code (including tests) that calls these methods must now provide a valid TempFileManager instance. After that however, #3806 did not account for these changes, specifically the changes to the required arguments. --- ## Checklist ### General - [x] I have read the [Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) - [x] I have read the [Stirling-PDF Developer Guide](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/DeveloperGuide.md) (if applicable) - [ ] I have read the [How to add new languages to Stirling-PDF](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/HowToAddNewLanguage.md) (if applicable) - [x] I have performed a self-review of my own code - [x] My changes generate no new warnings ### Documentation - [ ] I have updated relevant docs on [Stirling-PDF's doc repo](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-Tools.github.io/blob/main/docs/) (if functionality has heavily changed) - [ ] I have read the section [Add New Translation Tags](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/HowToAddNewLanguage.md#add-new-translation-tags) (for new translation tags only) ### UI Changes (if applicable) - [ ] Screenshots or videos demonstrating the UI changes are attached (e.g., as comments or direct attachments in the PR) ### Testing (if applicable) - [x] I have tested my changes locally. Eml-to-pdf bug fixes: removal of incompatible fonts, removal of emoji in favor of @, jakarta-mail dependency handling improvements (#3770)
# Description of Changes This pull request introduces enhancements and code cleanup to the `EmlToPdf` utility class, focusing on improving email-to-PDF conversion, handling embedded images, and simplifying the codebase. Key changes include better handling of inline images, enhanced Jakarta Mail dependency checks, and refactoring for improved readability and maintainability. ### Enhancements to Email-to-PDF Conversion: * Added support for processing inline images (`cid:` references) by converting them into data URIs for proper inline display. * Improved attachment handling to always include embedded images regardless of size, ensuring inline display functionality. * Enhanced email HTML generation to process inline images and include them in the email body. ### Attachment Handling Enhancements: * Replaced the attachment icon placeholder (`icon` or 📎 emoji) with a new marker (`@`) for consistency across the application (non-fat images did not support the emoji, however @ is supported accross the board.) * Updated the annotation logic to use `AttachmentMarkerPositionFinder` instead of `EmojiPositionFinder`, aligning with the new attachment marker system. ### Jakarta Mail Dependency Handling: * Added detailed checks for core Jakarta Mail classes to determine availability in different environments (e.g., Docker). * Introduced validation for Jakarta Mail multipart and part types to prevent processing invalid objects. * Explicitly parse in the classes: - jakarta.mail.internet.MimeMessage – Core email message parsing - jakarta.mail.Session – Email session management - jakarta.mail.internet.MimeUtility – MIME encoding/decoding utilities - jakarta.mail.internet.MimePart – Individual MIME parts (attachments, body parts) - jakarta.mail.internet.MimeMultipart – Multi-part MIME messages - jakarta.mail.Multipart – Base multipart interface - jakarta.mail.Part – Base part interface ### Code Cleanup and Refactoring: * Simplified utility classes (`StyleConstants`, `MimeConstants`, `FileSizeConstants`) by removing unnecessary constructors and unused constants. * Updated log messages for clarity, such as distinguishing between general content processing errors and multipart-specific issues. --- ## Checklist ### General - [x] I have read the [Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) - [x] I have read the [Stirling-PDF Developer Guide](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/DeveloperGuide.md) (if applicable) - [ ] I have read the [How to add new languages to Stirling-PDF](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/HowToAddNewLanguage.md) (if applicable) - [x] I have performed a self-review of my own code - [ ] My changes generate no new warnings ### Documentation - [ ] I have updated relevant docs on [Stirling-PDF's doc repo](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-Tools.github.io/blob/main/docs/) (if functionality has heavily changed) - [ ] I have read the section [Add New Translation Tags](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/HowToAddNewLanguage.md#add-new-translation-tags) (for new translation tags only) ### UI Changes (if applicable) - [ ] Screenshots or videos demonstrating the UI changes are attached (e.g., as comments or direct attachments in the PR) ### Testing (if applicable) - [x] I have tested my changes locally. Update multi-toolAdvert to respect SYSTEM_ROOTURIPATH. (#3776)
Closes #3775 Currently, the advert link assumes `SYSTEM_ROOTURIPATH` to be `/`. As described in the issue, this isn't always the case. Auditing support (#3739)
# Description of Changes This pull request introduces a comprehensive auditing system to the application, along with minor updates to existing utilities and dependencies. The most significant changes include the addition of audit-related classes and enums, updates to the `ApplicationProperties` model to support auditing configuration, and enhancements to utility methods for handling static and trackable resources. ### Audit System Implementation: * **Audit Aspect for Method Annotations**: Added `AuditAspect` to process the new `@Audited` annotation, enabling detailed logging of method execution, HTTP requests, and operation results based on configurable audit levels. (`proprietary/src/main/java/stirling/software/proprietary/audit/AuditAspect.java`) * **Audit Event Types**: Introduced `AuditEventType` enum to define standardized event types for auditing, such as authentication events, file operations, and HTTP requests. (`proprietary/src/main/java/stirling/software/proprietary/audit/AuditEventType.java`) * **Audit Levels**: Added `AuditLevel` enum to define different levels of audit logging (OFF, BASIC, STANDARD, VERBOSE), providing granular control over the amount of data logged. (`proprietary/src/main/java/stirling/software/proprietary/audit/AuditLevel.java`) ### Application Properties Update: * **Audit Configuration in `ProFeatures`**: Updated the `ProFeatures` class in `ApplicationProperties` to include support for auditing with configurable retention days, levels, and enablement flags. (`common/src/main/java/stirling/software/common/model/ApplicationProperties.java`) ### Utility Enhancements: * **Static and Trackable Resource Handling**: Extended `RequestUriUtils` methods (`isStaticResource` and `isTrackableResource`) to recognize `.txt` files as valid static and trackable resources. (`common/src/main/java/stirling/software/common/util/RequestUriUtils.java`) [[1]](diffhunk://#diff-de3599037908683f2cd8f170939547612c6fc2203e9207eb4d7966508f92bbcbR22) [[2]](diffhunk://#diff-de3599037908683f2cd8f170939547612c6fc2203e9207eb4d7966508f92bbcbR39) ### Dependency Update: * **Spring Validation Starter**: Added `spring-boot-starter-validation` to project dependencies to support validation mechanisms required for auditing features. PDF-A conversion removes highlight opacity fix (#3106) (#3695)
# Description of Changes Previously, highlight annotations in PDF documents converted to PDF/A format lost their opacity, resulting in highlights appearing completely opaque. This issue stemmed from LibreOffice’s PDF to PDF/A conversion process and affected both supported PDF/A variants (PDF/A-1B and PDF/A-2B). To resolve this, a new conversion method was implemented. Because PDF/A-1B does not support transparency, unlike PDF/A-2B, the input PDF must be preprocessed to flatten existing transparent objects when targeting PDF/A-1B. Changes: - Preprocess the PDF to handle highlight transparency when converting to PDF/A-1B; - LibreOffice's PDF to PDF/A conversion is now only used if fonts are not embedded or images require flattening; - If needed, missing fonts and flattened images are imported from the LibreOffice-converted file; - The document is traversed to remove elements non-compliant with PDF/A standards; - Updated metadata, including all metadata schemes, to ensure full compliance; - Added an ICC Profile if one was not already present. Any challenges encountered: - Since PDF/A-1B does not support transparency, the best workaround I found in other conversion tools was to draw close diagonal lines with the highlight color to simulate transparency, as seem in the example below. Closes #3106 Example from the issue: Original: PDF/A-1B: PDF/A-2B: --- ## Checklist ### General - [x] I have read the [Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) - [x] I have read the [Stirling-PDF Developer Guide](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/DeveloperGuide.md) (if applicable) - [ ] I have read the [How to add new languages to Stirling-PDF](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/HowToAddNewLanguage.md) (if applicable) - [x] I have performed a self-review of my own code - [x] My changes generate no new warnings ### Documentation - [ ] I have updated relevant docs on [Stirling-PDF's doc repo](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-Tools.github.io/blob/main/docs/) (if functionality has heavily changed) - [ ] I have read the section [Add New Translation Tags](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/HowToAddNewLanguage.md#add-new-translation-tags) (for new translation tags only) ### UI Changes (if applicable) - [ ] Screenshots or videos demonstrating the UI changes are attached (e.g., as comments or direct attachments in the PR) ### Testing (if applicable) - [x] I have tested my changes locally. Refer to the [Testing Guide](https://github.com/Stirling-Tools/Stirling-PDF/blob/main/DeveloperGuide.md#6-testing) for more details. I tested the changes using a variety of PDF files and verified PDF/A compliance of the outputs using VeraPDF. While these tests covered different scenarios and document types, PDF files can vary significantly in structure and complexity. As a result, the testing was not exhaustive, and while the results so far have been compliant, full compliance in all edge cases cannot be guaranteed. --------- Co-authored-by: Anthony Stirling <[email protected]> |
