## Fix Playwright E2E tests and expand CI to run full suite
### Problem
The full Playwright suite was broken in two ways:
1. **`ConvertE2E.spec.ts` crashed at import time** —
`conversionEndpointDiscovery.ts` imported a React hook at the top level,
which pulled in the entire component tree. That chain eventually
required `material-symbols-icons.json` (a generated file that didn't
exist), crashing module resolution before any tests ran.
2. **CI only ran cert validation tests** — both `build.yml` and
`nightly.yml` hardcoded `src/core/tests/certValidation` as the test
path, silently ignoring everything else.
### Changes
**`ConvertE2E.spec.ts` — complete rewrite**
The old tests were useless in practice: all 9 dynamic conversion tests
were permanently skipped unless a real Spring Boot backend was running
(they called a live `/api/v1/config/endpoints-enabled` endpoint at
module load time). Replaced with 4 focused tests that use `page.route()`
mocking — no backend required, same pattern as
`CertificateValidationE2E`.
New tests cover:
- Convert button absent before a format pair is selected
- Successful PDF→PNG conversion shows a download button (mocked API
response)
- API error surfaces as an error notification
- Convert button appears and is enabled after selecting valid formats
**`conversionEndpointDiscovery.ts` — deleted**
Only existed to support the old tests. The `useConversionEndpoints`
React hook it exported was never imported anywhere else.
**`ReviewToolStep.tsx`**
Added `data-testid="download-result-button"` to the download button —
required for the happy-path test assertion.
**CI workflows (`build.yml`, `nightly.yml`)**
- Added a `Generate icons` step before Playwright runs (`node
scripts/generate-icons.js`) — the icon JSON is generated by `npm run
dev` locally but skipped by `npm ci` in CI
- Removed the `src/core/tests/certValidation` path filter so the full
suite runs
# Description of Changes
Improves PDF rendering in the viewer by adding digital signature field
support,
cleaning up overlay rendering, and migrating the contrast tool off
pdf-lib to PDFium WASM.
### Signature Field Overlay
- Added `SignatureFieldOverlay` component that renders digital signature
form fields
- Renders appearance streams when present; shows a fallback badge for
unsigned fields
- Uses PDFium WASM for bitmap extraction
### Overlay Rendering
- Integrated `SignatureFieldOverlay` and `ButtonAppearanceOverlay` into
`LocalEmbedPDF`
- Overlays are now clipped to page boundaries
- Clarified in `EmbedPdfViewer` that frontend overlays use PDFium WASM,
backend overlays use PDFBox
### Contrast Tool Migration
- Replaced pdf-lib with PDFium WASM in `useAdjustContrastOperation`
- PDF page creation and image embedding now go through PDFium APIs
directly
- Updated bitmap handling and memory management accordingly
### Cleanup
- Fixed import ordering in viewer components
- Removed stale comments in the contrast operation hook

# Description of Changes
- Reduced lightweight editor JSON size:
- Omit heavy page resources and contentStreams in lazy/lightweight
flows.
- Omit form fields in lazy metadata/editor bootstrapping flows.
- Strip inline font program blobs from lazy initial payloads.
- Added page-based font loading:
- New endpoint to fetch fonts for a specific cached page:
GET /api/v1/convert/pdf/text-editor/fonts/{jobId}/{pageNumber}
- Frontend now loads page fonts alongside page data and merges into
local doc state.
- Reduced save payload duplication:
- Partial export now sends only changed pages (no repeated full-document
font/metadata payload each save).
- Preserved round-trip/export safety:
- Missing lightweight fields (resources/contentStreams) are interpreted
as “preserve existing from cached PDF.”
- Annotation semantics fixed so explicit empty annotation lists can
clear annotations.
- Fixed a regression where lazy mode could fall back to full export and
lose overlays; lazy now stays on cached
partial export path when dirty pages exist.
- Logging/noise reduction
- Transport optimization:
- Enabled HTTP compression for JSON/problem responses. (might remove
later tho in testing)
### Outcome
- Much smaller JSON payloads for giant PDFs.
- Fewer duplicated bytes over the wire.
- Page-scoped loading of heavy font data.
- Better reliability for preserving overlays/vector/background content
during export.

# Summary
- Adds desktop file tracking: local paths are preserved and save buttons
now work as expcted (doing Save/Save As as appropriate)
- Adds logic to track whether files are 'dirty' (they've been modified
by some tool, and not saved to disk yet).
- Improves file state UX (dirty vs saved) and close warnings
- Web behaviour should be unaffected by these changes
## Indicators
Files now have indicators in desktop mode to tell you their state.
### File up-to-date with disk

### File modified by a tool but not saved to disk yet

src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/1a7716d9-c6f7-4d13-be0d-c1de6493954b"
/>
### File not tracked on disk

# Limitations
- It's a bit weird that we still have files stored in indexeddb in the
app, which are still loadable. We might want to change this behaviour in
the future
- Viewer's Save doesn't persist to disk. I've left that out here because
it'd need a lot of testing to make sure the logic's right with making
sure you can leave the Viewer with applying the changes to the PDF
_without_ saving to disk
- There's no current way to do Save As on a file that has already been
persisted to disk - it's only ever Save. Similarly, there's no way to
duplicate a file.

# Description of Changes
This pull request improves the PDF stamping feature, particularly the
text stamping functionality, by introducing dynamic variables, improving
formatting flexibility, and refining positioning logic. The changes
include backend support for dynamic stamp variables (such as date, time,
filename, and metadata), improvements to text layout and positioning,
updates to the API and frontend for usability, and localization
enhancements for user guidance.
**Dynamic Stamp Variables and Text Processing:**
* Added support for dynamic variables in stamp text (e.g., `@date`,
`@time`, `@page_number`, `@filename`, `@uuid`, and metadata fields),
including custom date formats and escaping for literal `@` symbols. This
is handled by the new `processStampText` method in
`StampController.java`.
* Implemented validation and formatting for custom date variables,
ensuring only safe formats are accepted and providing user-friendly
error messages for invalid formats.
**Text Layout and Positioning Improvements:**
* Refactored text and image stamp positioning: now calculates line
heights, block heights, and widths for multi-line stamps, and adjusts
placement logic for more accurate alignment (top, center, bottom) and
margins.
* Updated the default font size for stamps to 40pt and improved font
size handling in both backend and frontend, including validation for
positive values
**API and Method Signature Updates:**
* Extended method signatures to include additional context (such as page
index and filename) for more powerful variable substitution in stamps
**Frontend and Localization Enhancements:**
* Added comprehensive help text, variable descriptions, and template
examples to the UI, making it easier for users to understand and use
dynamic stamp variables.
* Improved accessibility and clarity in the stamp formatting UI by
disabling controls appropriately and providing clearer descriptions.

# Description of Changes
TLDR:
- Added `naturalCompare` function to handle alphanumeric sorting
- Updated `sortFiles` logic to use `naturalCompare` for filename sorting
- Passed `naturalCompare` as dependency in sorting callback
This pull request improves the file sorting logic in the `Merge` tool to
provide a more natural, human-friendly ordering of filenames (e.g.,
"file2" now comes before "file10" instead of after). The main change is
the introduction of a custom `naturalCompare` function that is used when
sorting files by filename.
File sorting improvements:
* Added a `naturalCompare` function to sort filenames in a way that
handles numeric portions naturally, ensuring files like "file2" are
ordered before "file10" (`frontend/src/core/tools/Merge.tsx`).
* Updated the file sorting logic to use `naturalCompare` instead of the
default `localeCompare` when sorting by filename
(`frontend/src/core/tools/Merge.tsx`).
* Ensured the `sortFiles` callback properly depends on the new
`naturalCompare` function (`frontend/src/core/tools/Merge.tsx`).
Note: the sort on upload is natural sort (at least I think so I haven't
checked the code), this is only relevant after upload, and you click the
sort button again
